Le Steel Head

par J.P Morel, Guide

Good day flyfishing friends,

I would like to tell you about a fishing trip on the Ontario rivers for Steelhead.
I went with some clients of mine, and they really appreciated the panoramic view. We fished the NNR and the Willmoth Creek.
And the steelhead were on time. When we arrived we were in a hurry to wet a line, but we had to buy a fishing license first at $26.00, but it was worth the price. When I tied on the special flies I made for them, they did not believe that they would catch fish.

They were surprised of the results. The average weights of our fish were 17lb to 26lb, and we saw bigger but could not get them. Some anglers took some of 30lb or more which keep an angler busy for more than an hour.

For the rivers they are small but very clear and clean. ,

Fishing is done with 10' to 16' leaders and the tippet 3lb to 6lb

I fish with salmon egg of my own invention and my clients were a bit sceptical about these but when the steelhead were taking them they realized that they were very good. We were hit about 7-8 time an hour.
There were no question of just staying in place to fight these monster. We had to run with them!!! Since I am not in good shape it was pretty hard for me, and my clients were also out of breath. All emotions went by, from happiness to deception, for anger to frustration!

The equipment needed for this type of fishing is a 9' - 5-6 weight. If you have a longer rods then the better it is.

This is a breif resume of ny trip. If you want the experience please comtact Micheland he will reach me.
It will be my pleasure to accompany and serve you on your next trip
Till next time
